The existing clinical processes of the DSM 5 are largely rooted in the experiences of more privileged people and not as universally applicable as every person is a unique product of their life experiences
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Orders (DSM5) is a classification for mental health conditions published by the American Psychiatric Association (APA). It provides common language and standard criteria for diagnosing mental health conditions, aiding and communication and assisting researchers. The DSM uses a system to asses various aspects of an individuals condition.
As part of your onboarding process, you'll be asked questions about your preference in your therapist or counselor's identity. The Footprints theory being that a therapist who has a common or shared background will provide more specialized care
After your first few sessions, a member of the Footprints intake team will check in on your comfort with your therapist and offer alternatives if there are any barriers
